SCADDS Members Gather in Charleston for 2026 Annual Meeting
The South Carolina Academy of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery (SCADDS) convened its Annual Meeting on April 16-17, 2026, at the Francis Marion Hotel in Charleston, bringing together dermatologists, physician assistants, residents, students, and industry partners from across South Carolina and surrounding state. The meeting provided an opportunity to celebrate achievements, conduct Academy business, and recognize the contributions of members dedicated to advancing dermatologic care throughout the state.
Celebrating a Banner Year
Outgoing President Laura Winterfield, MD welcomed attendees and reflected on another successful year for the Academy. SCADDS was recognized as the recipient of the 2025 American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) Model State Award with Honors, highlighting the Academy’s commitment to advocacy, legislative engagement, and community skin cancer screening initiatives.
SCADDS Annual Skin Cancer Screening
The annual skin cancer screening event, hosted by Dr. Jim Chow, Columbia Skin Clinic, in partnership with the South Carolina Academy of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery, was a tremendous success. We were honored to have SCADDS and SCMA members Dr. Jim Chow, Dr. Peter Neidenbach, Dr. Marta Hampton, and Dr. Allison Cashman join us, along with residents, PAs, and staff, all working together to deliver preventive care to lawmakers and the public.
This initiative beautifully showcased the power and impact of our physician community. Not only did we advocate for our patients and the importance of skin health, but we also demonstrated our commitment to providing care and advancing community health outside the clinical setting. The event brought much-needed awareness and screenings right to the heart of state leadership and citizens, further emphasizing the critical role that physicians play in championing public health.
MUSC Dermatology Resident Education Fund
The Academy also approved an increase in funding for the MUSC Dermatology Residency Program, expanding annual support to $50,000 to help address resident education needs and strengthen the future dermatology workforce.
Recognizing Excellence
A highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the SCADDS Dermatologist of the Year Award to Dr. Richard Marchell in recognition of his leadership in expanding the MUSC Dermatology Residency Program and his longstanding dedication to resident education and patient care.

Members elected and installed the Academy’s leadership team for the coming year:

The Academy also recognized Dr. Laura Winterfield for her outstanding leadership and service as outgoing President.
Looking Ahead
As the meeting concluded, members were encouraged to continue their engagement in advocacy, education, and community outreach programs throughout the year. SCADDS remains focused on supporting dermatologists across South Carolina while advancing patient care, physician education, and public health initiatives.
We are delighted to return to Charleston, South Carolina, and stay at the Francis Marion Hotel Charleston SC.
The event will be packed full of opportunities for Continuing Medical Education, networking, and advancing the future of medicine in a relaxing, enjoyable setting.
