Any physician beginning the practice of dermatology (whether in private practice, academic practice, or while practicing as a dermatologist on active duty in a branch of the Armed Services or U.S. Public Health Service)in the State of South Carolina thereafter, and who is a Diplomate of or has been eligible for examination by the American Board of Dermatology, or by an American Board of Medical Specialties dermatology subspecialty shall be eligible for Active membership.
Applicants shall submit completed required application forms to the Secretary Treasurer at least thirty (30) days before the annual meeting. The Secretary Treasurer shall conduct the necessary investigation to confirm that the application is correct and that the credentials are in order specifically including written confirmation of valid licensure and written proof of the successful completion of residency and Board status. If the credentials of the candidate are in doubt, the Secretary shall further investigate to confirm or refute the credentials, then report his/her findings to the Executive Board.
If the applicant is eligible for membership, he/she is then voted upon by the general membership in the same manner as any other applicant. If the applicant is not eligible for membership as determined by the Executive Board, the name of the candidate is not submitted for a vote. Applicants must be proposed by one active member and seconded by another active member. Applications of those deemed eligible for Active membership shall be voted upon by the general membership at a regular meeting following proposal and seconding, with election to membership requiring a two-thirds (2/3) majority vote for passage.
